A Quick Note on Death

January 23, 20252 min read

Someone I care about lost their partner very recently. I didn't know them well, but from the facts and brief interactions I did have, they must have been a good person.

It's an unfortunate reminder that life doesn't take prejudice in deciding who to take. It's a reminder in the most cruel of ways, to be grateful for all you have, the good and bad, for it might be taken at will. More death has surrounded me than perhaps is necessary at my age and I doubt it has been there to teach me, for I am too unimportant for that sort of cosmic teacher. But that mustn't mean I cannot draw wisdom from it.

Perhaps the insignificant short and unpredictable time we have here, or rather the reminder of which, is what one needs occasionally to make the short while feel like a long one. But what about those, who life took to teach those who remain? What do they have to gain from it? Perhaps nothing. Only they shall know in the realm beyond, and soon we too.

Is it all part of a master plan or is it just life being life? I do wonder... how is it, that all of this, life, is possible without some higher power or grand designer? Even before we bloomed, who made the rules in the first place? Why can't light be faster than 300.000km/s? Why are there constants in the Universe? If it all were just chaos and particles and we are the anomaly, why the strict limits? Perhaps I'll find out once I reach the end... What a sad, hopefully distant, day it will be.

For all that's left to do, is use the time in this realm. Love and be loved. Laugh and cry. Be happy and depressed, just not for too long. Feel the stress and emotional turmoil and realize, your body and mind are doing what they are designed to do. Whether you feel like a mess or on top of the world, you are alive. Energy is flowing through you, biological mechanisms and chemical reactions happening all around and inside of you. The air you breath is simply a well working mix of atoms just as you and everything you touch. There are no rules, fairness is a construct, we are just animals in fancy clothes and tourists of life. But it never hurt to be kind. Remember this.
